World Brewing Academy

The World Brewing Academy (WBA) was established in 2001 as an alliance between Doemens Academy (Munich, Germany) and Siebel Institute of Technology (Chicago, U.S.A.) in order to provide students with a truly international education in brewing technology.
The programs offered by the WBA give students the unique opportunity to experience different brewing cultures on two continents.

Siebel Institute
WBA Chicago Campus

The Siebel Institute of Technology was founded in 1872 by Dr. J.E. Siebel. In 1893 Dr. Siebel stated: "The object of the Institute is to promote the progress of the industries based on fermentation, which is done by instruction, investigation, analysis and otherwise." Since its inception the Siebel Institute has grown to be an internationally recognized brewing industry service provider.

The Siebel Institute of Technology has been part of the Chicago landscape since 1872. While the mandate of the school has always been to provide a world-class brewing education, the school itself has changed both form and location since its creation over 140 years ago.

In September of 2013, the Siebel Institute of Technology moved into its new campus facilities at 900 N. North Branch St, Chicago in the Kendall College building.

The new Siebel Institute campus has incorporated many of the elements of the previous location including the bar and furnishings from the famous Bier Stube, a favorite spot where students socialized after a hard day’s study. Wireless internet access throughout the building allows students to conduct research and stay in touch with home while in the comfortable confines of our campus.

The new location at the Kendall College building lies within walking distance of downtown Chicago, offering students the full experience of one of the world's greatest cities including:
  • Thousands of restaurants, from small ethnic food bistros to places like Hard Rock Cafe and House Of Blues
  • Cultural pursuits such as the Field Museum, Chicago Art Institute, and numerous theatrical and operatic presentations
  • Miles of parkways, and one of America's most beautiful urban beachfronts
  • National sports teams such as the Bulls, Bears, Cubs, and White Sox. Wrigley Field, one of America's most beautiful baseball stadiums, is only minutes away from our new location

Doemens Academy
WBA Munich Campus

Doemens Brewing Academy in Munich was established in 1895 by the pharmacist Dr. Albert Doemens as a training center for the brewing industry, and has since built a worldwide reputation as an international training and service institute for the brewing, beverage, and food sectors.

The Doemens campus provides a complete practical brewing environment, allowing students the ability to apply their theoretical training in a real-world brewing environment in facilities that include:
  • A pilot malting system
  • Computer-controlled brew system
  • Open & closed fermentation vessels
  • Complete microbiology lab
  • A Krones-designed bottle packaging line
The campus provides a large dining area where students can relax and enjoy their breakfast or lunch in the company of their fellow students and instructors. Students can also dine in the outdoor courtyard or take a short walk through tree-lined streets into town. Grafelfing is a scenic country village located just outside of Munich. The town offers a selection of restaurants and delicatessens to meet anyone's tastes, as well as a variety of stores and boutiques for those wishing to take home a reminder of their trip.

When students are not in class, they will find themselves surrounded by all the beauty that is Bavaria. The S-Bahn commuter train allows excellent access to downtown Munich, the heart of this historic state. Munich is rich with history, a showcase for centuries-old architecture and culture.

Munich is also the rail gateway to Eastern and Western Europe, allowing easy day travel to cities and countries throughout the region. Visitors to Doemens can plan to take a few extra days to explore Europe in the comfort and efficiency of the Eurail system.

Doemens Academy is proud of its tradition of combining an unequalled educational experience with the warmth of Bavarian hospitality.
