Based in Freising, Germany, for the past 30 years, Christopher’s interest in beer began as a homebrewer in his native Texas in the late 1980’s, and over the following years, gained experience working in the burgeoning American craft brewing scene, and eventually in the German brewing industry.
Fluent in the German language, he attended the Technische Universität München (TUM) at Weihenstephan, receiving first his Diplom Braumeister degree and afterwards, a degree in Brewing Science and Beverage Technology (MSc). Together with his wife Nancy (also a graduate of TUM), they wrote the book The Beer Brewing Guide: The EBC Quality Handbook for Small Breweries for the European Brewing Convention (EBC), based upon the knowledge and experience acquired in their studies and decades of work as freelance consultants, authors, teachers and technical translators for the brewing and beverage industry. He and his wife have also translated a number of seminal German brewing textbooks into English, including Applied Malting and Brewing Science: A Weihenstephan Compendium by the late and legendary Prof. Ludwig Narziss, and also write regularly for Brauwelt International magazine.
Christopher teaches in the WBA advanced-level classes at Doemens Academy, and acts as the tutor for both the online WBA Executive Overview of the Brewing Process and the WBA Concise Course in Brewing Technology. Chris has presented seminars on various subjects in brewing internationally and can often be found in pursuit of exceptional, traditional and unusual beers and brewing techniques.
